Richard Frank Barone, 72, passed away on February 26, 2025. Born in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of the late Richard and late Catherine (nee Adragna) Barone and stepson of late Geraldine (nee Harter-Sanders) Barone. He was the dear father of Richard (Rachel) Barone and Maria (Travis) Stoey; brother of Catherine (Thomas) Friedman and David (Robyn) Barone; and stepbrother of Rick (Robin) Sanders and Debi (Terry) Lynne. He is also survived by his former wife, Cynthia (nee DeRubes) Barone, and was the beloved grandfather of Giovanni, Gianna and Lucianna Barone and Arianna and Chiara Stoey. Richard is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, as well as his loving friend Judy Pease and her family.
In his teenage years, Rick worked at the family business, Barone & Sons Furniture, on Hertel Avenue in Buffalo. He earned a degree at the University at Buffalo and a Masters Degree from Niagara University. Rick began his teaching career at Niagara County Community College and went on to serve as a teacher and principal in the North Tonawanda and Depew School Districts. He later continued his work in education at St. Ann’s School in Hornell. In the 1980s, Rick started a small business specializing in pre-wiring homes for cable and phone service. In retirement, he founded a nonprofit organization called The Cartridge Guy in Hornell, continuing his passion for service and innovation. A lifelong Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees fan, Rick also gave back to his community as a volunteer at the Hornell Public Library, where he helped launch “Friends of the Library.” He had a deep love for coaching, especially when it came to supporting his children in baseball, basketball, and softball. Rick cherished family traditions—most notably Christmas and his favorite celebration, “Cookie Day.” He was also proud to serve on the committee for the Longo Family Picnic.
A Memorial Mass for the repose of his soul will be held at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, 8550 Main St. at Harris Hill in Williamsville, on Saturday, May 31, at 12:00 Noon. Please assemble at the church.
