Nancy Ann Waterman, born Nancy Ann Bishop, wife of the late Charles F. Waterman, died at home on September 7, 2026. She was born on December 22, 1944, in Caudersport, Pennsylvania, and lived a life shaped by intelligence, humor, devotion to family, and a deep belief in the value of education and learning.

Nancy graduated from Salamanca High School and went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from St. Bonaventure University. and completed her Master Degree in Criminal Justice at Mercyhurst University in Pennsylvania in her 40s, a reflection of her determination and lifelong commitment to growth. She built a respected professional life and retired as a Supervisor with the Erie County Probation Department.

She was a longtime professional and leader, yet the center of her life was always her family. Nancy was happiest when she was spending time with her children and grandchildren, staying active and involved in their lives. Over the years, she poured herself into their activities and teams, serving as a Cub Scout Leader in the 1970s, EMW Little Loop Football Booster member, running their concession stand, and taking part in leading Triangle Girls in the 1980s. In the 2000s, she enjoyed retirement while sharing her time and energy with her grandchildren, taking them to the YMCA, the library, and the many ordinary places that become lasting memories because of who was there. Those who knew her will remember a woman of sharp mind and warm wit, someone who led capably, loved generously, and remained engaged in the lives of the people she cherished.

She is survived by her sons, Charles “Tim” Waterman, and Steven Waterman, her daughter Kari Heigl and son-in-law, Todd Heigl. She also leaves her granddaughter Celia Heigl (fiance, Brian Yates), her grandson Caleb Heigl, and her great-granddaughter Layla Yates. Nancy is also survived by her sisters, Penny Tokash (husband Ed), and Debby Ross (husband Daniel), her brother, Kevin Bishop as well as her sister-in-law Nancy Bishop (wife of late brother Craig) and 8 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephew. In all of them, her love and influence continue, carried forward in family stories, shared laughter, and the steady example of a life fully given.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles F. Waterman; father, Stanley Bishop; mother, Phyllis (Froebel) Bishop; and her brothers, Stanley J. Bishop and Craig Bishop.

Nancy will be remembered for the seriousness with which she pursued her work, the joy she found in her family, and the energy she brought to every season of life. Her presence was one of encouragement, humor, and steadfast care, and she will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring at a time and location to be determined.  Future plans will be posted here.
