With deep sorrow and loving remembrance, we announce the passing of John E. Wagner, who departed this life on June 24, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on December 11, 1947, John’s presence in the lives of all who knew him was unwavering and full of heart.

His love and devotion for his family defined the rhythms of his days and the shape of his legacy. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Wagner, who was his partner through all of life’s seasons. John’s spirit endures in his daughters, Tammy (Michael) Currier and Michele (Steve) Sacco, and his son, Michael (Heidi) Wagner . As a grandfather, John was a steady and loving presence to his grandchildren: Scott and Logan Currier, Lana and Allie Wagner, Brayden Buchanan, and Joel and Mia Sacco. John’s profound impact is felt by his siblings: brother Nelson (Bernie) Wagner, and sister Margie (Doug) Fox, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of steadfast friends.

John is now reunited with cherished family members who preceded him in death: his grandson Blake Wagner, his father Edward Wagner, his mother Norma Wagner, his sister Jackie (Frank) Dzielski. Their memories live on vividly through the stories and love John continued to share throughout his life.

John’s long and remarkable journey was defined by devotion—to family, to service, and to community. His service as a volunteer fireman spanned a remarkable 50 years with the South-Line Volunteer Fire Company, including 20 years as Commissioner. Through these years, his courage, steadiness, and selfless sense of duty became an inspiration to all who served with him and to the countless lives he touched. John also dedicated 33 years of his life to General Motors, embodying a strong work ethic, unfailing loyalty, and genuine camaraderie with those around him

A proud United States Army veteran, John answered the call to serve his country as a member of the renowned 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. His service was marked by bravery and sacrifice: John was a recipient of the Purple Heart, a testament to the valor and fortitude he carried, both on the battlefield and in every chapter that followed.

John’s life was rich not only in service but also in the joys of simple pleasures and cherished pursuits. He found peace and fulfillment in fishing, hunting, gardening, and woodworking—hobbies that reflected his patience, love of nature, and care for those who would enjoy the fruits of his labors. Whether quietly tending a garden or sharing stories during a fishing trip, John’s warmth and gentle humor drew family and friends close.

Those whose lives intersected with John’s will always remember his selfless acts, his gentle strength, and his readiness to lend a helping hand. His commitment to others, deep-rooted integrity, and heartfelt laughter leave an enduring imprint.

Friends and family are invited to honor John’s life during visitation hours on Monday, June 29, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and again from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 5090 Transit Rd, Depew, NY.
