Jeanne Tufte, a beloved matriarch and vibrant spirit, peacefully passed away on October 1, 2025, at the remarkable age of 97. Born on April 26, 1928, in Buffalo, NY, she was the cherished daughter of Ralph Fetter and Winifred Vradenburg and an enduring source of inspiration to those fortunate to know her.

A devoted wife to the late Robert B. Tufte, Jeanne's life was adorned with love and family. She is survived by her two sons, Robert (Susan) and David (Mary Jo), who carry forward her legacy of kindness and strength. Jeanne took immense pride in her role as a loving grandmother to Jessica Tufte (Matthew Henderson), Madeline, Elizabeth, Benjamin, and Hope Tufte, and she found joy in her role as a great-grandmother to Evelyn and Stellan Tufte-Henderson. Jeanne also shared a deep bond with her late siblings, Robert Fetter, Vivian Meyers, and Dorothy Stannard.

Jeanne's passions defined her vibrant character. At just 14 years old, she discovered her love for golf at the Park Country Club, where her tenacity shone through as she won numerous tournaments and league titles throughout her life. Equally passionate about bridge, she was known for her competitive spirit and continued to enjoy these games until the age of 92. A proud graduate of Buffalo Seminary in 1945, Jeanne further pursued education at Wheaton College, earning her bachelor’s degree in English Literature.

In 1953, Jeanne and Robert became partners in life, nurturing their family in Williamsville, NY, and creating lasting memories, especially during their winters in Vero Beach, Florida, for over 20 years. Following Robert's passing in 2008, Jeanne made Vero Beach her full-time home until 2022, cherishing friendships and engaging in activities that enriched her life.

Jeanne had an unwavering love for dogs, sharing her home with furry companions throughout her adult life. Classical music filled her home, providing a soothing backdrop as she supported her grandchildren in their musical journeys and attended countless concerts over the years. As a voracious reader, she delved into a vast array of genres—British history, mysteries, romance—enriching her mind and life with each page turned.

Jeanne's innate pragmatism and wisdom provided a refreshing perspective, offering thoughtful advice on life’s challenges—her guidance will be profoundly missed by her family and friends.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services, and her interment will be private. The family plans to celebrate her remarkable life at a future date. In lieu of flowers, they kindly request donations be made to the Brothers of Mercy Foundation in her name—a fitting tribute to a woman who lived generously and loved profoundly.
