Leona H. Podyma (nee Maciejewski)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leona Podyma of Cheektowaga, NY, beloved wife of the late Victor Peter Podyma. Leona was a devoted mother to Karen (James) Mikoll, Michael (Lori), James (Martha), and Steven (Cheryl) Podyma, and she relished her role as “Grandma Lee” to eleven cherished grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was also a loving sister to the late Joseph (late Annette) Maciejewski and Anne (late Gary) Fialkiewicz.

Leona's warmth and nurturing spirit touched the lives of so many. Her family invites relatives and friends to celebrate her life on Friday, December 5th, from 3-7 PM at the Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 5090 Transit Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 6th, at 10:00 AM in Queen of Martyrs Church, where we will gather to honor her memory. 

A proud graduate of Villa Maria Academy, Leona was not just an artist but an active participant in the Society of Decorative Painters. She dedicated her time as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader, touching the hearts of many young lives. After graduating from the E.J. Meyer School of Nursing, she spent her career as a Registered Nurse at Erie County Medical Center, caring for those in need with compassion and dedication.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Leona's name may be made to the Patricia Allen Fund Benefiting John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital at 1028 Main St., 4th Floor, Buffalo, NY 14202.
