It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory Jack Cain, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Greg was the loving husband of Sheila Gervase-Cain and father to Laurie (Bruce) Elliott and Jeff (Melissa) Cain. He was a grandpa to Collin and Evan Elliott and Abigail Cain, and his love extended to the roles of “Father” to Jolene (Matt Moscato) Falkner and Jonathan (Dani Guerriero) Gervase, as well as beloved Papa to Camden and Davin Falkner. He also held a special place in the hearts of his "grandkids" Nicki and Jessie, and great-grandpa to Nina, Hopper, Mabel, Micah, and Ana, who affectionately called him "Grandpa Greg."
Greg was a treasured brother to Cindy McCrary and will be missed dearly by family and friends.
Greg was a charter member and past president of VVA Chapter 77 WNY. Under his leadership, the VVA Veteran food bank was established. He was also a national past president of The Vietnam Security Police Association, as well as a life member of the VFW and American Legion Post 71, Lake Wales, Florida. A proud United States Airforce Veteran, who was awarded a Warriors Medal of Valor stowed upon by the Native American Nations of the United States of America. While serving during the Tet Offensive in Binh Thuy, Vietnam, Greg was a combat security police officer.
Before serving our country, Greg was a professional hockey player where he was the goalie for The Saginaw Gears and eventually was called up to play for the Detroit Red Wings before being drafted into the military. After his discharge, Greg found happiness in fishing and traveling, especially when his family was by his side.
A gathering for family and friends will take place on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 5090 Transit Road, Depew, NY 14043. A memorial service, along with military honors, will be held on Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM at the funeral home.
Greg's legacy of love and connection will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
