George Gust Nicolatos, 70, of Buffalo, New York, passed away at Erie County Medical Center on June 16, 2026, after a long illness.
George is survived by his sister, Dia Nicolatos of Buffalo, New York; his brother, Peter Nicolatos, and his wife, Laura Davidson, of Atlanta, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
George graduated from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York, and later earned a master’s degree in education from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta.
In the early 1980s, George moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he dedicated his life to a career in education. He taught middle school in Fulton County for thirty years before returning to his hometown of Buffalo. Over the course of his career, George was named “Teacher of the Year” several times and was known for his exceptional ability to connect with and inspire young people.
As Henry Adams once wrote, “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” George’s legacy lives on in the countless students whose lives he touched.
A private memorial service is planned. In keeping with George’s wishes, flowers and donations are respectfully declined.
