Eunice A. Herrington

March 2, 1931 — June 23, 2025

Eunice Marie Ament Herrington of Williamsville, NY, formerly of Warren, PA passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, at Beechwood Continuing Care in Getzville, NY at the age of 94.

Born in Apollo, PA on March 2, 1931, Eunice was the youngest daughter of the late Lyle K. and Cleo (nee Artman) Ament. She grew up the house she was born in and graduated from Apollo High School as class salutatorian in 1949. She graduated from Thiel College in Greenville, PA with a BA in 1953.

After college, she worked as a legal secretary before becoming a homemaker and “stay-at-home” mom – a job at which she was one of the best in the business. While living in Warren, PA, she worked for the American Cancer Society and in the Warren Area High School Guidance Office. In 1982, she accepted a position as secretary to the Warren County Commissioners. Five years later, she was selected as Warren County Clerk, a position she held for 10 years until her retirement in 1997.

Anyone who knew Eunice knows she was a relentless perfectionist in any job or endeavor she undertook. She was passionate about music, animals and nature, and was fiercely devoted to her family. Eunice also had a strong faith in God throughout her life and was extremely active in her home church parish, First Lutheran Church, Warren, PA. She sang in the church choir for more than 45 years and played in the handbell choir. She co-directed the youth choir, served as a Stephen Minister, was a member of the Church Council, and loved playing organ/piano duets and providing music for the weekly senior fellowship gatherings.

Eunice served the Warren community as a member of the Zonta Club, chairing their scholarship committee. She was a volunteer at Warren General Hospital, a member of the Garden Club, and she sang with the Sweet Adelines, competing in national competitions as part of the chorus and a local quartet.

Music played a pivotal role in her life from a very early age. In addition to singing with numerous choirs and choral groups throughout her life, she played French horn in her high school marching band. She was a gifted pianist, continuing to play until shortly before her death. She had a gentle soul and a soft spot for all animals, especially cats, and she was fond of Albert Schweitzer’s quote: “There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats.”

Eunice is survived by her children, D. Bryce Herrington, Sharon, PA, and Shandra H. (Stephen) Holt, Clarence, NY, her three grandchildren, Jessica (Clay) Langdon, Coraopolis, PA, Michael (Jessica) Holt, Williamsville, NY, and David Holt, Buffalo, NY, and her four great grandsons, Maxwell and Dean Langdon, and Brooks and Avery Holt.

In addition to her parents, Eunice was preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Leone A. Toivonen, Dorothy J. Braughler, and brother-in-law Reverend John T. Braughler.

A memorial service celebrating Eunice’s life will be held at First Lutheran Church at a later date. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery, Apollo, PA in a private family ceremony. Condolences may be sent by visiting newcomerbuffalo.com/obituaries. Those wishing to place memorials may do so through First Lutheran Church, 109 Third Ave., Warren, PA, or the Paws Along the River Humane Society, 212 Elm Street, Warren, PA.
