It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Elizabeth M. "Betty" Burns, who left us peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. Betty was the cherished wife of the late Donald J. Burns, and her indomitable spirit will live on through her beloved family.
She was an incredibly loving mother to her children, Franklin (Susan) Burns, Ronald (Kathleen) Burns, William (Cheryl) Burns, and Susan (Kevin) Barrett. Her legacy continues in the warmth and kindness she instilled in her family. Betty’s joy radiated as she embraced the role of cherished grandmother to her grandchildren—William, Keith (Jennifer), Ryan, Jennifer (Matthew) Shilling, Stacey, Whitney, Aaron, Nicole (Nick) Demetriou, David Morris, Kristy Barrett, Kelly (Brendan) Stone—and her 17 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense happiness to her life.
Betty was also a dear sister to the late James (Lynn) Rhow, and a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.
Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Betty's life on Friday, September 19, from 3-7 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 5090 Transit Rd, Depew, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 20, at Our Lady Help of Christians Church (Genesee St at Union Rd.) at 10:00 AM. We kindly ask all to assemble at the church.
Betty dedicated 22 years of her life as a secretary for the Cheektowaga Police Department Detective Bureau, where her compassion and diligence left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, we suggest making contributions to Hospice Buffalo, Inc., an organization that demonstrates the same compassion that Betty embodied throughout her life.
Betty’s warmth, love, and spirit will be deeply missed, but she will forever remain in our hearts.
